about

Scissor Shock aka Adam Cooley was an nontraditional artist, filmmaker, and musician from Columbus, Indiana. We became online friends on Myspace around 2007 when I came across his music on some bizarre international net-labels and quickly downloaded everything I could. We started a regular dialogue in the glory days of cybergrind, and began collaborating on both releases and doing music together with my project Dental Work which was very little known at the time. I always looked up to his insane concepts, song titles, short & FAST "songs"...My parents didn't get it, most people didn't...But I knew this was something. Adam was taken from us a few years back from a sickness that none of us knew about. Patrick Harsh was able to go attend his funeral in Indiana, I was not, sadly...His work will always be a part of my soul, my mind, and my history...I doubt I would have gone in the sonic direction I went in if it wasn't for Scissor Shock...I mean Fuckin' A, Crucial Blast released one of his albums, if that says anything. None of his musical career was mentioned in his obituary, so it is our responsibility to inform you what a fucking legend he is...R.I.P. Adam <3

"In case you were looking for them, here are the twenty-three random digital hardcore/noise-rock tracks that were missing from your life. The first batch of songs on here all have titles relating to the idea of violence against women and sexual assault. Although that might sound like a whole bunch of fun to some of you, it is presented on this disc in a video-game themed otaku kind of way that completely guts the realism and drama behind such lurid subject matter. Do not expect the sort of stark reality that such artists as Peter Sotos and Whitehouse bring to these subjects, as this is certainly not based on any kind of first-hand insight or any experience or knowledge not gleaned from some sort of media. There is a track titled “Zombi 2 Theme” that I regret to inform you is improperly labeled. This is not an isolated incident, as several songs claiming to be covers that are just additional faceless digital hardcore/glitchcore/video game noise outpourings from Scissors Shock. The one instance of this element that pleasantly surprised me was that they did not actually cover “White Christmas.” I can appreciate an artist's ironic use of other people's song-titles, as misappropriation is a staple of both comedy and art, but calling a song “Zombi 2 Theme” straight-up and then not stepping up to the plate with a version of Fabio Frizzi's excellent and simple synth theme is just disappointing. It is not particularly funny or ironic on any count. If you grew up on 8-bit video games and would like to hear the audio sped up with a lot of distortion added, there is a lot of that sort of thing for you to enjoy on this release. Being amused or impressed with violence against women and rape are pretty much prerequisites as well. Aside from the digital hardcore styles, there is also material on here that is kind of like weird rock, light finger tapping on guitars and arpeggios, that sort of thing. There is actually a ton of material on here overall. It basically sounds like a bunch of excerpts from practice recordings by a project that has not yet settled on a sound or style. There are some songs toward the end that go into more of a songwriting sort of direction, but still seem improvised. There is certainly an overwhelming amount of this sort of material in existence (not just from this artist or label, but in the world in general), but if you are an admirer of digital hardcore stuff like Atari Teenage Riot and Realicide there might be something on here for you to enjoy."
